Is it possible to be flabbergasted and entirely unsurprised at the same time?

I now have serious hopes that if I talk often enough and publicly enough about my desire to do a PhD that I’ll be awarded an Oxford D.D. before having to lift a pen.

Baffling. But this is the way awards and accolades work now isn’t it? Writing your autobiography after one hit single, getting an OBE after one successful ashes series, and so on. We should expect this kind of meaninglessness and futility where society is turning it’s back on the Triune Creator shouldn’t we?

It also indicates just how much of an almighty crush some people have on President Obama, fawning over him like breathless sixth-formers (he’s soo, like, y’know, cute, and he rilly rilly like totally wants world peace…).
